![]() Alyssa Pollastrini, DPT, MTC You may have heard the term vertigo, or have heard of a friend experiencing vertigo. Well, what exactly is vertigo? An often underutilized and underrepresented specialty in physical therapy, vertigo is the sensation of the world spinning around you when you are not moving. There is a balance organ in your inner ear, which we call the vestibular system. The vestibular system acts as a human gyroscope, keeping us oriented where we are relative to space. It also helps to gauge how fast and how far we move our heads. When something happens to the inner ear, this is when you feel a sensation of vertigo. Jes Davies, PT, CFMT, CSCS, CMTPT, 500eRYT

Habits exist because our brain is always looking for ways to save effort, and our habits allow us to stop thinking about basic behaviors in order to quiet our mind and prepare for other thoughts and issues that need our attention through the day. ![]() Brian Gajafsky, PT, CMTPT, CSCS Plantar fasciitis is a condition of the foot commonly characterized by pain at the bottom of the heel. Typically people complain of increased pain with their first few steps in the morning or pain with walking after sitting for a period of time. Plantar fasciitis tends to be a rather chronic problem but there are things you can do at home to help manage symptoms. Causes:
Plantar fasciitis is thought to be caused by inflammation of the fascia at the bottom of the foot. Over pronation (excessive caving in at the arch or excessive motion at the arch) is often observed in people with symptoms of plantar fasciitis which contributes to excessive tensile load at the fascia - especially over the attachment at the heel. Plantar fasciitis can occur in low, medium and high arched individuals. ![]() Matt Kinkade, DPT, CMTPT Are you struggling with jaw pain? Do you have clicking or popping in your jaw when you eat? Do you have regular headaches or migraines? When it comes to common joint and muscle pain, our jaw and the muscles we use to chew and open our mouths are often overlooked. It is said that jaw pain is second to low back pain in prevalence. ![]() Jes Davies, PT CFMT, CMTPT, CSCS, 500eRYT Your pelvic floor is a group of ligaments and muscles that act like a sling, supporting the bladder, bowels, prostate and uterus ... and are intricately connected to the rest of your core. While more often thought of as a "women's health" concern, pelvic floor dysfunction does affect men as well. ![]() Sam Kaufman, DPT Spring is a beautiful time of year to begin (or continue) running outside. While running is a great way to exercise outside on your own schedule with minimal equipment, the greatest tool for success is form. Proper running form can significantly decrease the stress on a number of parts of the body. |
