Plantar fasciitis is a condition of the foot commonly characterized by pain at the bottom of the heel. Typically people complain of increased pain with their first few steps in the morning or pain with walking after sitting for a period of time. Plantar fasciitis tends to be a rather chronic problem but there are things you can do at home to help manage symptoms.

Causes:
Plantar fasciitis is thought to be caused by inflammation of the fascia
at the bottom of the foot. Over pronation (excessive caving in at the arch or excessive motion at the arch) is often observed in people with symptoms of plantar fasciitis which contributes to excessive tensile
load at the fascia - especially over the attachment at the heel.
Plantar fasciitis can occur in low, medium and high arched individuals.

Home Solutions:
● Where supportive shoe wear whenever possible
● Consider an over the counter arch support to place in your shoes
such as “SuperFeet” or "Power Steps"
● Maintain good calf flexibility - see video link
● Self massage with tennis ball or frozen water bottle
Physical Therapy:
Physical Therapy can be effective with managing symptoms of
plantar fasciitis. PT can also be helpful with determining longer term
solutions by addressing gait biomechanical issues. In addition to manual
techniques and corrective exercise, a physical therapist at Body
Renovation Physical Therapy may also prescribe custom orthotics to help
correct a person's gait. Most insurances allow for direct access to a
physical therapist (no referral required!).
